Luís Guerreiro
(N. 16 April, 1976)Luís Guerreiro is one of the notable figures of contemporary Portuguese guitar. It was under the influence of his father that he felt aroused curiosity for the Portuguese guitar and, consequently, for Fado, since it was from his hands, at the age of 9, that he received his first guitar.
While attending the Music Academy, he came to know another important Portuguese guitarist, António Parreira, with whom he started taking private lessons.
Then came the opportunity to play at "Forte Dom Rodrigo", initially as a guest, later replacing António Parreira whenever he was absent. This was his first stage, a space where he worked, among others, with the fado singers Ivone Ribeiro and Manuel de Almeida, an excellent learning space, where “great masters, like Fontes Rocha and others” passed by.
In 2001, he gave his first individual concert at CCB covering, as a soloist, the repertoire of the most emblematic guitarists in the history of Fado. In the same year, the first contact with Mariza arises, joining the cast of musicians of the artist permanently from 2003. In 2005 he participates in the documentary by Simon Broughton for the BBC, "Mariza and the Story of Fado".
Passing by the main Lisbon Fado Houses, he quickly becomes one of the most sought after Portuguese guitar performers, performing on the most important national and international stages with the great names of Fado, such as Celeste Rodrigues, Mariza, Camané, António Zambujo and Carminho, among others.
His references are guitarists Jaime Santos, José Nunes and Raul Nery, "and many who are currently playing, such as José Manuel Neto".
